This program is designed to teach and develop leadership behaviors in high school students and those preparing to be student leaders in universities. It is built on current theories and research on leadership in communities and organizations. It is especially designed for schools and universities with diverse student bodies, because it focuses on the most recent work on cultural and ethnic influences on leadership in communities and organizations.
Materials will be given to students as part of courses or extracurricular activities. Materials will be developed around topics that include, but are not limited to:
Each module includes a PowerPoint presentation, “discussion challenges,”or brief case problems, for group work, and videos. Other modules will be developed after gathering information about students who will participate in the program. Such information will come from teachers, counselors, administrators and students. Developing modules and materials will be a collaborative process, involving administrators, teachers, students and the “21st Century Leadership” team. After meeting with one of our first groups of students, we agreed to expand the modules to include career preparation skills for young leaders. These modules include, but are not limited to:
